Blacula - 50th anniversary

A red, black and white poster promoting the film screening.

We love exploring exploitation cinema at Abertoir, and we dedicated a day of the 2022 edition of the festival to a blaxploitation horror deep dive, with screenings, very special guests, and our centrepiece: a simultaneous 50th anniversary screening of Blacula + panel discussion with director William Crain broadcast live from Abertoir across the UK.

Watch the Q&A with William Crain, chaired by Maisha Wester, on YouTube.

Read a report on the day by Louise Giadom, FAN Young Consultant, who joined us for the day in Aberystwyth.

Our celebration of Blacula and blaxploitation horror was in collaboration with Bristol Black Horror Club, and formed part of the BFI's In Dreams Are Monsters season, supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and the ICO. www.indreamsaremonsters.com
