Here at Abertoir we are dedicated to providing a festival which is accessible, welcoming and inclusive. On this page you’ll find some information you might find useful about the accessibility of our venue (the cinema at the Aberystwyth Arts Centre) and other relevant information.
Abertoir takes place at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, in the cinema. Sometimes we have events take place in other parts of the building, such as the bar or the theatre. Some of the information below can also be found at the Arts Centre’s own website. We also host some events off-site, for which we can provide accessibility information.
There is ample car parking close to the Arts Centre. There are spaces reserved for blue-badge holders nearest the main entrance, and two additional parking spaces at the rear of the building.
Wheelchair access is available to all auditoria in the venue. The cinema is located on the main level of the building, as is the box office, café and the main building entrance. Access to the upper floor (where you’ll find the bar, theatre foyer, and theatre) is by stairs or by lift.
Toilet facilities are accessible on all levels except the lower foyer.
Guide dogs and assistance dogs are very welcome in the building and auditoria.
The cinema has a hearing loop installed for those who use hearing aids, or who wish to use headsets provided by us. We are also able to offer audio description, via headset, on any films supplied to us with audio description included, this depends on our programme.
We do not offer reserved seating for the festival as a rule, however, if you require particular seating in order to accommodate any access needs, such as for mobility needs, sight or hearing needs, or any other needs to make your viewing experience more comfortable, please let us know. You can let us know either in advance or when you arrive. We will arrange for the appropriate seating to be held for you for each screening or event you attend. We have space for up to 4 wheelchair users in our cinema - please let us know in advance if you are a wheelchair user or booking a pass/ticket on behalf of a wheelchair user so that we can adjust our capacity and ensure the space is reserved.
If you need to attend the festival with a carer or companion, please get in touch with us or the box office to talk about a carer’s pass or ticket. We operate the Hynt scheme for those who are members (Hynt is a Wales-based organisation, more information can be found HERE).
A variety of accommodation is available in Aberystwyth. The closest option to the venue is on-campus accommodation, which are able to offer via the university. Please visit this page for further information. If you require the regular use of taxis to and from your accommodation please speak to festival staff, who can help arrange this for you.
The Arts Centre has its own café. If you have any particular dietary requirements you’d like for us to talk to the café about, please let us know and we will pass on any information to them.
If you require the use of a space for prayer, or other devotion, the Aberystwyth University Faith Space is located very near the Arts Centre. Please get in touch and we can help arrange access to this space.
