The mid 1970s. A timid young New Yorker leads an uneventful life until he is fatefully exposed to the pulsating rhythms of a brand-new genre of music: disco. Unable to control his murderous impulses, Duane Lewis transforms into a dangerous killer whenever he is exposed to the sound of the dancefloor…
Don’t expect camp and silliness here though, director Gauthier takes his film in a completely unexpected direction. It’s a grimy, retro throwback, shot in a way that emulates filmmaking from the period perfectly. Thankfully rejecting those cheesy filters that many other films succumb too, instead it perfectly evokes the style of editing, music editing, acting style and camerawork of a film from the 70s. A hugely successful experiment that fully delivers… plus a funky ass soundtrack!
